REVEALED: Here's why Pakistan's Censor Board banned SRK's Raees

Raees did not get a censor certificate from Pakistan and the film will not release across the border. And the reason being given, is that Muslims have been shown in a bad light in the film.
Afterhrs puts together, according to a source, what exactly the Board — the Chairman of the Central Board of Film Censors of Pakistan (CBFC), Mubashir Hasan and the other members — found offensive about the film:
1. In any Islamic state like Pakistan, selling alcohol is illegal and in the film, Shah Rukh Khan, is a bootlegger and sells alcohol which is unacceptable to the Pakistani audience.
2. Raees Aslam (Shah Rukh), who is Muslim, is from the underworld; a negative character.
3. The CBFC members found the gold smuggling scenes tough to digest. They felt that the film showed Pakistan in a poor light.
In the end, it was not a question of editing just one or two scenes, but many, so they didn’t clear the film.
Anything possible in Pakistan

Film and television producer Sevy Ali affirms the reasons. “One person from the Army and intelligence unit watches the movie. The CBFC had certain reservations about Bajrangi Bhaijaan also, but they passed it because it showed Pakistan in a positive light. I heard that these were the reasons that Raees was not passed in Pakistan, but I don’t agree. I think they should release the film in its entirety. I found Raees to be a pure entertainer and Shah Rukh’s character to be more of a Robin Hood one and more positive than negative. I know in India both Hindus and Muslims have liked the film as it’s based on a true story. But in Pakistan, one never knows — the decision of today can be changed tomorrow. In Pakistan anything is possible,” he concludes.
